Balderson Commits to Leading Effort to Overturn Biden Administration's Reckless “Clean Power Plan 2.0”

WASHINGTON, D.C. – In response to the EPA’s reckless decision to shut down reliable power plants, Congressman Balderson (OH-12) will lead the effort to overturn the Clean Power Plan 2.0 through a Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolution.

Congressman Balderson issued the following statement on the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announcing its final rule on coal- and natural gas-fired power plants, dubbed the Clean Power Plan 2.0:

“The EPA’s latest rule is nothing short of catastrophic for our electric grid and disastrous for our energy security. Complying with these rules will be prohibitively expensive and require the implementation of technology that has never before been deployed at commercial scale.

“These rules aren’t meant to address the emissions of coal- and natural gas-fired plants. Rather, they are designed to force fossil fuel power plants into early retirement and block the construction of new plants, reducing our baseload energy and creating unprecedented grid reliability issues. In fact, the EPA's final rule goes even further than initially proposed, forcing power plants into retirement a year earlier.

“This decision is based on politics and ignores reality. Just a few weeks ago, the Biden Administration issued unprecedented electric vehicle mandates for both consumers and businesses. Their plan is to force millions of Americans to switch to EVs – using more electricity – while also shutting down the very plants needed to power these vehicles. Simply put, it’s a recipe for disaster.

“I am committed to working with my colleagues in the House and Senate to immediately take action, and will be introducing a CRA resolution to overturn the Biden Administration’s Clean Power Plan 2.0."
