Balderson Introduces Resolution Recognizing Natural Gas as Green Energy

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Troy Balderson (OH-12) re-introduced a resolution today in the House of Representatives to recognize American natural gas as an affordable and “green” energy source.

Balderson’s resolution outlines how American natural gas has helped reduce carbon emissions and why it will continue to be an essential part of the United States’ energy mix. In Ohio alone, natural gas has already reduced carbon emissions from power generation by 38 percent.

“Ohio is home to a remarkable supply of natural gas that lies just below our feet,” said Balderson. “Tapping into this resource has delivered good-paying jobs to our region, helped shrink Ohio’s carbon footprint, and provided a reliable flow of affordable energy to our electric grid. Unleashing America's abundant natural gas is essential for us to keep the lights on and reliably power our nation.”

The resolution also calls on the Biden Administration to support natural gas infrastructure and remove unnecessary barriers for producers. One such barrier is the administration’s liquified natural gas (LNG) export ban, which halts the approval of critical infrastructure needed to export natural gas to our allies and economic partners overseas.

“We applaud Congressman Balderson's efforts to continue to showcase the ongoing efforts of Ohio's natural gas industry,” said Rob Brundrett, president of the Ohio Oil and Gas Association. “It is a testament to those Ohioans who get up and go to work every day to provide the clean, abundant and affordable energy we use to power our lives and they should be celebrated and encouraged for their efforts.”

“With inflation continuing to burden working families, it is important that the Biden Administration do everything possible to help lower the cost of energy, not make it more expensive while jeopardizing American jobs,” said Chris Ventura, executive director at the Consumer Energy Alliance. “We applaud Congressman Balderson for his leadership in bringing this resolution forward and encourage bipartisan passage so families across Ohio and throughout the country can access more affordable, reliable energy produced here at home.”
