Starting Strong in 2025

[firstname],

On January 3rd, Members of Congress from across the country assembled in Washington to be sworn into the 119th Congress. Each of us raised raise our right hand and affirmed the following oath:

I do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.

These are sacred words that I take very seriously, and it is an honor to work each day to fulfill this promise to you. Here are some highlights from the first weeks of 2025.

New Faces in the Ohio Delegation

Moments after I was sworn into the House of Representatives, Senator Bernie Moreno took his oath of office on the other side of the Capitol. This marks his first term in the U.S. Senate, and I wish him all the best as he settles in and gets to work.

With Ohio’s own JD Vance being elected Vice President, our state also welcomes a second new U.S. Senator. When a Senate seat becomes vacant in Ohio, it falls to the governor to appoint a replacement. Ohio is fortunate to have a deep bench of dedicated individuals ready to serve our state, and I believe Governor DeWine made an outstanding choice in appointing Jon Husted to the position.

Jon is a good friend of mine, and I had the honor of serving alongside him in the Ohio Legislature, where I saw firsthand his tireless work ethic. He did an exceptional job as Ohio’s Lieutenant Governor, and I look forward to working with him and Senator Moreno to deliver results for the people of Ohio.

President Trump’s Second Term

January 20th marked an important day for our nation as President Donald Trump was sworn in for his second term. Just hours after his inauguration ceremony in the Capitol Rotunda, he began delivering on key promises—including signing executive orders to reignite the American energy sector.

His first bill signing came this week after both the House and Senate passed the Laken Riley Act, legislation ensuring that illegal immigrants who commit crimes are not released back into our communities. This commonsense law will make our neighborhoods safer and marks the beginning of President Trump’s effort to reverse the disastrous border policies of the previous administration.

Leading the Energy Conversation

As you may know, I was recently selected to serve as Chairman of the House Energy Action Team (HEAT)—a coalition committed to advancing House Republicans’ America First energy agenda. Our mission is to champion policies that protect national security and ensure affordable, reliable energy for every American family.

One of my first actions as Chair was convening a roundtable discussion last week with leaders from across the energy industry. Our focus was on the future of American energy and our top priorities for 2025. With energy demand surging in Ohio—and across the nation—it is critical that lawmakers in Washington pass policies that strengthen our power grid’s reliability while keeping energy affordable for families and businesses.

DCA Aircraft Collision

A horrific tragedy unfolded this week when a U.S. Army helicopter collided with a passenger plane just moments before it was set to land at Ronald Reagan National Airport, just outside Washington, DC. Despite the heroic efforts of hundreds of local first responders, 67 lives were lost that night. My prayers are with the victims' families and friends.
