[firstname],
Today is Holocaust Rememberance Day, a solemn occassion commemorating the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau and for honoring the 6 million Jews and others who perished under the Nazi regime.
Simply pledging to "never forget" is not enough, as anti-semitism and genocide remain horrific realities of our modern world. Lack of education about the history that led to the Holocaust, as well as the resurgence of Neo-Nazi ideology should stir alarm in us all, and makes today's commemoration all the more important. Holocaust Remembrance Day provides a unique opportunity for us to better educate ourselves and the public—especially younger generations—about the Holocaust.
That is why I cosponsored the Never Again Education Act, which provides resources to help bolster the already expansive educational resources of the National Holocaust Memorial Museum and requires the dissemination of these materials to schools all across our country.
Each and every one of us has a role to play in combatting genocide and rooting out anti-semitism in our society. Exploring the vast resources available through the National Holocaust Memorial Museum is a great place to start. I hope you will take this opportunity to visit their website and share their wealth of information with friends and educators in your community.
