Ohio Health Care Providers Applaud Balderson’s Leadership on Digital Health

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Health care groups across Ohio are commending Congressman Troy Balderson’s (OH-12) latest effort to expand access to affordable, quality care. Last month, Balderson launched the Congressional Digital Health Caucus, a platform for dialogue and collaboration to shape policies that support the integration of cutting-edge digital health technologies into the health care landscape.

“OSMA thanks Congressman Balderson for his leadership in the formation of the Bipartisan Congressional Digital Health Caucus,” said Eric Drobny, M.D., President, Ohio State Medical Association (OSMA). “As digital health innovation continues at a rapid pace, policymakers must remain informed and empowered to understand the impacts on our healthcare system. Access and affordability of healthcare continue to be major issues of focus, and it is critical for lawmakers to consider the role of innovation in digital health and technology in their search for solutions. The work of this caucus can help address potential challenges, and also support meaningful advances in development and research.”

“On behalf of Ohio's Community Health Centers, we wholeheartedly commend Congressman Balderson and Congresswoman Kelly for spearheading the establishment of the Congressional Digital Health Caucus,” said Julie DiRossi-King, CEO & President of the Ohio Association of Community Health Centers (OACHC). “As frontline providers in under resourced areas, Community Health Centers recognize the vital role for innovation and technology in dismantling barriers and improving access to care. The creation of a caucus devoted to exploring cutting-edge developments in digital health and crafting policies that improve patient outcomes and increase healthcare efficiency is truly commendable.”

“Technology and innovation constantly reshapes how hospitals and caregivers deliver quality health care services,” said Mike Abrams, President and CEO, Ohio Hospital Association. “We appreciate Congressman Balderson’s leadership on this important effort of digital health innovation. The impact of this transformation at hospitals is substantial resulting in greater support of population health management, clinical integration, convenience, and access. We look forward to working with policymakers on these important issues.”

Balderson founded the Digital Health Caucus with Congresswoman Robin Kelly (IL-2). Members of the caucus include: Representatives Jeff Duncan (SC-3), Kevin Hern (OK-1), Terri Sewell (AL-7), Richard Hudson (NC-9), Becca Balint (VT-At-Large), and David Schweikert (AZ-1).

In the 118th Congress, Balderson has introduced several bills, including the House-passed Remote Opioid Monitoring Act, promoting the use and adoption of remote patient monitoring (RPM). RPM is an innovative approach to health care that lets patients remain in the comfort of home while doctors track their medication adherence and monitor vital signs. This can be especially useful when patients are prescribed opioids and is a critical tool to combat addiction and abuse.
