Three students from central Ohio congressional districts will have a piece of art displayed at the U.S Capitol for a year after being named winners in the annual Congressional Art Competition.

The winners, announced earlier this week at the Columbus Museum of Art, are:

• Matthew Brady of Olentangy Orange High School in Lewis Center for his photo, “Luke.” Brady represented the 12th District of Republican Troy Balderson.

• Fatima Fnu from Centennial High School in Columbus, for her charcoal drawing entitled, “Linked In Time.” Fnu represented the 3rd District of Democrat Joyce Beatty.

• Sarah Karns of Clinton-Massie High School in Waynesville, for her drawing, “33 Shared by 2,” featuring two of the artist’s loved ones. Karns represented the 15th District of Republican Steve Stivers.

“It’s thrilling to see so much enthusiasm for the arts, especially among high school students,” Balderson said in a statement. “I’m overwhelmed at the amount of talent displayed.”

The contest began in 1982. Students submit entries to their representative’s office, and panels of artists from each district select the winners.
