Congressman Balderson Invites Area Students to Participate in 2020 Congressional Art Competition

WORTHINGTON—Congressman Troy Balderson (OH-12) today announced that his office is now accepting submissions for the 2020 Congressional Art Competition, an annual nationwide visual art competition designed to encourage and showcase artistic talent among local high school students.

"I'm pleased to once again host this competition which highlights the incredible artistic talents of students from across Ohio's 12th Congressional District," Congressman Troy Balderson said. "I'm proud that visitors to Washington D.C. will also have the opportunity to admire the work of one of our students."

Last year's first place winner, Matthew Brady, of Olentangy Orange High School was selected among 161 submissions from Central Ohio high school students. Since that time, Brady's piece, a photograph titled "Luke," has been on exhibit in the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington D.C. and will remain so until this year's winner is chosen.

The first place student will be flown to Washington D.C. to participate in the exhibit's unveiling ceremony with other winners from across the country.

The Congressional Art Competition is open to all high school students. Participants are asked to submit their original artwork to Congressman Balderson's District Office, located at 250 E. Wilson Bridge Road in Worthington, before the April 10 deadline to be eligible. From the pieces submitted, the top-three winners are selected by a panel of local judges, and the “People’s Choice” Award is chosen by popular vote on social media.

Artwork must be two-dimensional. Each framed artwork can be no larger than 26 inches high, 26 inches wide, and 4 inches deep. If the artwork is selected as the winning piece, it must arrive in Washington, D.C., framed.
