Balderson Releases Statement on Passage of Debt Limit
Washington, D.C.,
May 31, 2023
WASHINGTON D.C. – U.S. Congressman Troy Balderson (OH-12) voted today in support of the Fiscal Responsibility Act and released the following statement on the bill’s passage:
“The Fiscal Responsibility Act puts taxpayers first and holds Washington accountable. The bill will rein in the federal budget, incentivize Congress to get budget bills done on time or trigger further cuts to spending, and rescind billions of dollars in IRS spending and unspent COVID funds. “Increasing the debt limit ensures the federal government does not default on its debts and will guarantee Ohioans receive their hard-earned Social Security, Medicare, or military payments. “While far from perfect, this legislation advances conservative priorities to save taxpayers $1.5 trillion dollars over the next decade, require the executive branch to offset the full amount of costly rules and regulations, expand work requirements for able-bodied adults receiving long-term welfare benefits, and promote American energy independence by streamlining the federal permitting process. “Ohio’s energy producers have been bogged down by unnecessary bureaucratic red tape for far too long. These commonsense measures are a positive start and will lay the groundwork for more comprehensive reform.”
