WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Energy Action Team (HEAT) Chairman Troy Balderson (OH-12) and Republican Study Committee (RSC) Chairman August Pfluger (TX-11) introduced a resolution today in the House of Representatives to recognize American natural gas as an affordable and “green” energy source.
This resolution outlines how American natural gas has helped lower emissions and why it will continue to be an essential part of the United States’ energy mix. According to the Energy Information Administration (EIA), natural gas is responsible for over 60 percent of the power sector’s emissions reductions since 2005.
“With American energy demand surging, we cannot afford to ignore the power and abundance of American natural gas,” said Chairman Balderson. “The shale revolution has transformed communities across Ohio by providing good-paying jobs and has lowered energy costs for consumers across the country. I applaud President Trump’s support in unleashing American energy and boosting our energy exports. To be energy dominant, we must utilize our God-given resources and ensure clean, American-produced natural gas is available to our allies across the globe.”
“American natural gas stands as an unrivaled engine of economic growth and national security,” said Chairman Pfluger. “I am pleased to join RSC House Energy Action Team (HEAT) Chairman Troy Balderson in introducing this resolution to recognize the critical role that natural gas plays in reducing emissions, lowering household energy costs, and bolstering energy security. As the world's leading producer of natural gas, America isn't just creating jobs and revitalizing communities—we're reshaping global energy markets and providing our allies with a lifeline against hostile energy suppliers. The time has come to unleash American energy dominance and secure our position as the world's premier energy exporter.”
The resolution supports the Trump Administration in their efforts to expand American natural gas infrastructure, remove unnecessary barriers for producers, and expedite the approval of new liquified natural gas (LNG) export facilities. New LNG export facilities are critical pieces of infrastructure needed to deliver reliable energy to American allies overseas, reducing global reliance on Chinese and Russian energy.
Since being sworn in, President Trump has lifted the Biden-era ban on new LNG export projects and has issued executive orders to lift regulatory barriers on American natural gas production and require federal agencies to review potential obstacles to domestic energy infrastructure.
“America is the world leader in natural gas production and exports and is also the world leader in emissions reductions – largely due to the increased use of natural gas in the power sector,” said Anne Bradbury, President & CEO of the American Exploration & Production Council (AXPC). “AXPC applauds Congressman Balderson for recognizing the critical role that natural gas has in shaping a sustainable energy future that includes growing our economy and promoting energy security.”
“We thank Congressman Balderson for his continued efforts to support and showcase Ohio’s natural gas industry,” said Rob Brundrett, President of the Ohio Oil and Gas Association. “This important legislation is a recognition of the many Ohioans who get up and go to work every day to provide clean, abundant and affordable energy we use to heat our homes and power our lives. We encourage the House to quickly act on this important and impactful piece of legislation.”
“After four years of burdensome inflation and higher energy costs, American families can finally look forward to an Administration that is prepared to work with Congress to unleash American energy,” said Chris Ventura, Midwest Executive Director at Consumer Energy Alliance. “We applaud Congressman Balderson for his continued leadership in bringing this resolution forward and encourage bipartisan passage so families across Ohio and throughout the country can access more affordable, reliable energy produced here at home.”
