Congressman Balderson Invites Area Students to Participate in 2021 Congressional Art Competition

Each spring, high school students from across the country are invited to participate in the Congressional Art Competition, sponsored by Members of the U.S. House of Representatives. An opportunity to recognize the artistic talent of high school students from my Congressional District, the winning piece of artwork will be displayed for one year in the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C. The runner-up, third place, and People’s Choice award-winning artwork will be displayed in my district office in Worthington.

Last year's first place winner, Emma Moran, from Fort Hayes Metropolitan Education Center, was selected among numerous submissions from Central Ohio high school students. Since that time, Moran’s piece, "A Drop of Something" has been on exhibit in the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington D.C. and will remain so until this year's winner is chosen.

I'm pleased to once again host this competition which highlights the incredible artistic talents of students from across Ohio's 12th Congressional District, and I'm proud that visitors to Washington D.C. will also have the opportunity to admire the work of one of our very own students.

Instead of delivering artwork in-person to my office in Worthington, as we have done for previous competitions, students are asked to submit a photo of their artwork as either PNG, JPEG, or a PDF file. Participants will have until April 26 to enter the competition. Artwork must be two-dimensional. Each framed artwork can be no larger than 26 inches high, 26 inches wide, and 4 inches deep. If the artwork is selected as the winning piece, it must be framed before arriving in Washington D.C.

For more information about this year's competition, students may call Beth Estelle in my district office at (614) 523-2555.
