WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Troy Balderson (OH-12) voted today in support of two bold measures aimed at delivering on House Republicans' Commitment to America.

"House Republicans are united in our desire to advance legislation that builds a stronger economy, a nation that's safe, a future built on freedom, and a government that is accountable," said Congressman Balderson

Rules Package for the 118th Congress

The first item of business for every new Congress, after electing a House Speaker, is the adoption of the rules package.

The new rules, adopted Monday, guide how the House will conduct business during the 118th Congress. A few of the most notable changes to House rules include:

  • Eliminating proxy voting
  • Adopting a single-subject rule, eliminating massive "Christmas Tree" bills that were commonplace during the 117th Congress.
  • Reinstating the CUTGO rule, requiring mandatory spending increases to be offset by mandatory spending cuts
  • Establishing the Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party to confront the threats posed by the CCP
  • Establishing the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government to investigate the extent of the Biden Administration's assault on the constitutional right of Americans
  • Mandating at least a 72-hour period between the release of bill text and a final vote

"Today, House Republicans adopted unprecedented reforms to repair the damage done to the People's House under Democrat control, to promote freedom, and to lay the groundwork for holding the Biden Administration accountable," said Balderson. "Additionally, the new House rules take long overdue steps to rein in out-of-control spending that has led to the higher prices felt by every American, and to ensure the House is putting the interests of the American people first."

The Family and Small Business Taxpayer Protection Act

On Monday, the House also passed legislation, cosponsored by Representative Balderson, that would defund the Biden Administration's plan to hire 87,000 new IRS agents and block drastic increases to the number of audits conducted on middle-class families.

The bill simultaneously enhances taxpayer support services.

"The American people deserve an IRS that is both timely and responsive to taxpayers, not one that goes after them," added Balderson. "I was proud to join my colleagues in introducing this effort to provide low- and middle-income Americans with some added assurance that they will not be the target of an overzealous bureaucracy."
