Balderson partners with Democrat to join 'Civility and Respect' caucus

WASHINGTON—Congressmen Troy Balderson (R-Ohio) and Jason Crow (D-Colorado) have joined the Congressional Civility and Respect Caucus, founded by Congressman Steve Stivers (R-Ohio) and Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (D-Ohio).
Balderson, from Zanesville, represents the 12th Ohio District, which includes part of Richland County, including Mansfield. The caucus’ purpose is to encourage all members of Congress to act and speak with civility and respect in their political discourse, both in Congress and at home in their districts, according to a statement from Balderson's office. Members of Congress who wish to join the Civility and Respect Caucus must join with a partner from across the aisle and commit to spreading the message of civility among their colleagues and constituents. After becoming the respective Chairman and Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Innovation and Workforce Development with the House Small Business Committee, Crow and Balderson formed not only a working partnership, but a genuine friendship. The two share the belief it's possible to disagree without being disagreeable and believe they have better served their subcommittee as such. “Americans agree on much more than is often portrayed,” Balderson said “Working with my colleague and friend Jason Crow, I’ve realized the only way to help those you represent—to really improve their lives—is to work across the aisle for the common good.” Crow said, "In the Army I learned to find common ground with people from different backgrounds and with different views. It’s the same perspective I bring to Congress because you don’t need to agree on everything to get things done. It’s an approach I share with Troy Balderson. We share the same goal of working together to end the gridlock in Washington and put the well-being of our communities over politics." Crow and Balderson have worked together to hold multiple Innovation and Workforce Development Subcommittee hearings and have participated in meetings with the other’s constituents to discuss such issues.
