Balderson Joins Call for Accountability Following Local Tragedies Potentially Linked to Botched VA Electronic Health Records Systems

  • VA Letter

Congressman Troy Balderson (OH-12) joined Congressman Mike Carey (OH-15) and Congressman Mike Bost (IL-12), the Ranking Member of the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs, on Tuesday to demand answers and accountability from VA Secretary Denis McDonough following two deaths potentially linked to the botched rollout of the new Oracle-Cerner Electronic Health Records (EHR) system at Chalmers P. Wylie Ambulatory Care Center in Columbus, Ohio.

"Technology plays a vital role in improving health outcomes and reducing inefficiencies in any modern health care system," said Rep. Balderson. "Unfortunately, the opposite appears to be the case at the Columbus VA Clinic. My colleagues and I are deeply concerned with how its new electronic health records system may be linked to disturbing tragedies, delays, and disruptions."

"Common-sense dictates that the VA should pause its roll-out, immediately fix the problems, announce new safeguards to ensure such incidents never recur, or abandon the botched technology altogether," added Balderson. "The status quo is unacceptable; both our veterans and America's taxpayers deserve answers."
