House Passes Balderson Measure to Strengthen Cybersecurity Protections for American Small Businesses

Congressman Troy Balderson (OH-12) today applauded the passage of his bipartisan legislation by the U.S. House of Representatives aimed at strengthening cybersecurity protections within the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).

The SBA Cyber Awareness Act (H.R. 2331), the first in a series of three cybersecurity bills, would require the SBA administrator to submit an annual report detailing potential risks and strategies for addressing vulnerabilities in existing cybersecurity infrastructure. The legislation aims to proactively guard against harmful and widespread cyberattacks that have the potential to compromise the sensitive information of millions of small businesses owners across the country.

“American small businesses have increasingly become the targets of cyber criminals, yet seldom have the resources to adequately defend themselves,” said Balderson. “In our rapidly-developing digital age, a threat to small businesses’ online security is a threat to their vitality.”

The SBA Cyber Awareness Act now proceeds to the U.S. Senate for further consideration.

H.R. 2331 is co-authored by Reps. Jason Crow (D-CO), Steve Chabot (R-OH), Nydia Velazquez (D-NY), Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA), Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA), Angie Craig (D-MN), and Tim Burchett (R-TN).
