Balderson Sees Opportunity in Grant Announcement for Intel Ohio

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Troy Balderson (OH-12) applauded the preliminary approval of $8.5 billion in funding from the CHIPS and Science Act for the development of four semiconductor projects across the United States, including Intel’s construction of two state-of-the-art chip manufacturing plants in Licking County.

As a result, thousands of jobs are coming to Ohio and millions of dollars are being invested in educational and workforce development programs in the state. For Ohio workers and students looking to pursue a high-paying career in tech, they will no longer have to move to one of the coasts. Instead, opportunities will be found in their backyard.

“Two years ago, Intel unveiled their vision to make Ohio home to two of their brand-new, leading-edge chip factories,” said Balderson. “Their initial $20 billion commitment is the single largest capital investment in Ohio’s history, laying the groundwork for thousands of construction and manufacturing jobs right here in Licking County. This could not have happened without the State of Ohio’s commitment to the project. The recently announced CHIPS and Science Act funding is the next critical step for strengthening U.S. manufacturing leadership, protecting our national security, and boosting Ohio’s economic prosperity. The future is brighter for kids in Ohio today because of this investment.”

Intel is investing in several programs in Ohio for K-12 students to help support future workforce needs, including creating initiatives to boost youth engagement and education in critical fields like science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).
