Ohio Awarded $7.5 Million Federal Investment for Autonomous Vehicle Research
Washington,
September 13, 2019
WASHINGTON—Congressman Troy Balderson (OH-12) this week applauded a decision by the U.S. Department of Transportation to invest $7.5 million in the testing and deployment of autonomous driving vehicle technology in Ohio.
"This is great news for the state of Ohio," said Congressman Troy Balderson, who serves as a member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. "Investments like these are a testament to the reputation our state has earned as a national leader in the development of the world's most cutting-edge transportation innovations, making our roads safer and more efficient for American motorists." DriveOhio and the Transportation Research Center (TRC) will lead the group of research partners, which includes The Ohio State University, Ohio University and the University of Cincinnati, to test the safe integration of automated driving systems over four years. Earlier this year, Congressman Balderson joined members of Ohio's congressional delegation to pen a letter sent to USDOT Secretary Elaine Chao, urging the Department's consideration of the funding request. The letter cited the state's unique research assets that could be leveraged to better understand the under-studied rural, suburban and urban driving environments as well as highway settings. |
