With Highway Construction Funding in Jeopardy, Balderson Urges Action Now
Washington,
November 19, 2019
WASHINGTON – With 10 scheduled legislative days remaining in the first session of the 116th Congress, Congressman Troy Balderson (R-OH) joined a bipartisan delegation of more than 100 representatives in sending House leadership a letter requesting they address the upcoming rescission of $7.6 billion from the highway funding bill passed earlier this year.
“Ohio risks losing nearly $337 million for vital infrastructure projects if Congress doesn’t reallocate this funding,” said Balderson. “ODOT has been planning on these funds; we need to hold up our end of the bargain so they can keep transportation projects on track and assure jobs for Ohioans.” Unless action is taken, the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act will rescind $7.6 billion in unobligated federal-aid highway contract authority on July 1, 2020. This provision was included as a budget offset in the most recently-passed highway funding bill but jeopardizes approximately $7.9 billion in unobligated contract authority across the United States, including $336.8 million for the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT). |
