Balderson Announces Agriculture Subcommittee Assignments

WASHINGTON – Following his recent placement on the House Committee on Agriculture, Congressman Troy Balderson (R-OH) today announced that he will sit on the following subcommittees:

“Given the rich makeup of Ohio’s Twelfth Congressional District – from rural communities to energy producers to farmers and manufacturers – these subcommittee placements could not be more fitting,” said Balderson. “My seat on these subcommittees will help me be an even more effective leader to the diverse area I represent, focusing on the key issues and policies that affect Ohioans in my district.”

The Subcommittee on Commodity Exchanges, Energy, and Credit has jurisdiction over policies, statutes, and markets relating to commodity exchanges; agricultural credit; rural development; energy; and rural electrification. The Subcommittee on Conservation and Forestry has jurisdiction over policies and statutes relating to resource conservation, forestry, and all forests under the jurisdiction of the Committee on Agriculture.

“I’m pleased to announce that Troy will serve on the House Committee on Agriculture’s Commodity Exchanges, Energy, and Credit Subcommittee, as well as the Conservation and Forestry Subcommittee,” said House Committee on Agriculture Ranking Member Michael Conaway. “These subcommittee assignments, along with his work on the full committee, will give Troy the opportunity to advocate for farmers and ranchers both in Ohio and across the country.”

BACKGROUND

Within a week of his placement on the Agriculture Committee, Balderson introduced bipartisan legislation that would support Ohio’s rural farmers during the ongoing pandemic. The Rural Equal Aid Act awaits consideration in both the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate.

Balderson is a staunch advocate for the expansion of broadband internet access, particularly for Ohio’s rural communities. He recently penned an op-ed detailing his work to expand rural communities’ access to broadband internet and how the pandemic has shined a light on this critical need.

In the Ohio Statehouse, Balderson served as the chairman of the powerful Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, along with other committee assignments.
