A Future Built on Freedom: House Establishes Panels on China and the Weaponization of the Federal Government

"The CCP never fails to discover new, inventive ways to exploit U.S. vulnerabilities," said Balderson. "The establishment of this Select Committee sends a clear message that the escalation of China's malevolence will no longer be tolerated."

WASHINGTON, DC — U.S. Representative Troy Balderson (OH-12) voted today to establish two new House panels, the Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and China as well as the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government, both aimed at securing a future built on freedom.

Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and China

Established to provide policy recommendations on how the U.S. can compete and win both economically and technologically against the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). The committee will investigate a myriad of issues, including:

  • Deceptive trade practices
  • Supply chain vulnerabilities
  • Role in the production of illicit fentanyl
  • Acquisition of U.S. farmland and other threats posed to food security
  • Intellectual property theft, and
  • Dissemination of CCP doctrine and propaganda within the United States

"The CCP never fails to discover new, inventive ways to exploit U.S. vulnerabilities," said Balderson. "The establishment of this Select Committee sends a clear message that the escalation of China's malevolence will no longer be tolerated."

The Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government

House Democrats failed to provide adequate oversight of the Executive Branch, allowing the Biden Administration to encroach on the rights of Americans.

Under the jurisdiction of the House Judiciary Committee, the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government will focus on rooting out corruption and abuses of power through investigations into:

  • The authority of the FBI, DOJ, and DHS to collect information and investigate American citizens
  • How agencies entities go about collecting data from within the government and private sector, and
  • Any laws, programs, or activities of the Executive Branch as they relate to the collection of information on American citizens

"House Republicans are united in our desire to advance legislation that builds a stronger economy, a nation that's safe, a future built on freedom, and a government that is accountable," said Congressman Balderson.
